Sense of Wonder

Before I could notice, drawing flowers has become my lifework. I can't say the reason for sure, but it is likely to be related to my name "Kahori" (scent), guiding me in that direction since birth. Recently I have been spending time at an atelier on a mountainside slightly more than two hours drive away from Tokyo. The energies emitted from flowers and plants turn into vibrations so lively that they become tangible to my body, using seasons to create the mood of "blessings".

The reason that I am so drawn towards plants is because they have an organic "form" that had been created since the origin of the universe. This "form", as well as the strong vitality of plants creates in me a swelling urge to copy and recreate these organisms in the form of art.

The core of a flower has an especially curious power of attraction. While staring into it, it turns into splashing swirls, sucking in sceneries, revealing emotions-arousing every kind of fantasy.

The title "Sense of Wonder" (The power to sense mysteries) is the foundation of this series which I began to draw in 2012. It also emblems a sensitivity that I wanted to nurture through creating art.

A single piece of drawing changes in shape and form as it changes into a three-dimensional sculpture or a video projection. The amorphous change is the best part of the creative process for me, and above all, if the flowers that I draw remain somewhere in the heart of the person who saw it, and slowly transform, spilling seeds, one day blooming into a different flower, there is nothing more delightful than that.

Sense of Wonder

花を描く事はいつしか私のライフワークとなりました。
その理由ははっきりとはわかりませんが、私の名前がかほりであるように、生まれたときからそちらの方向に導かれていたのかもしれません。 最近は、東京から２時間あまりの山の中腹にあるアトリエで過ごす時間も気に入っています。
花や植物が発するエネルギーがバイブレーションとして身体に感じられるほどにぎやかで、季節を通して「祝福」のムードで満ちているからです。

私が植物の姿に惹かれるのは、宇宙が作り出した有機的なフォルムにあると思っています。
そのフォルム、また植物自体の強い生命力、うねりのような力に引き込まれ、描きうつしたいという衝動にかられるのです。
特に花の芯には不思議な吸引力があって、見つめているうちに、ぐるぐるとしぶきを上げまわりだし、風景を巻き込み、感情をあらわにし、あらゆるファンタジーを巻き起こしてくれます。

タイトルの"センスオブワンダー"神秘を感じる力"は、2012年に描き始めたこのシリーズの根幹となるものであり、私が制作を通して磨いていきたい感性でもあります。

１枚の絵が、立体になったり映像になったりとその形を変化させて行くことも私の制作の醍醐味でありますが、 描かれた花が、見てくださった方の心のどこかにのこり、少しづつ変化し、種をこぼし、また違う花を咲かせるきっかけになれば、こんなに嬉しいことはありません。
